Connectors for AI assistants

Answers from the source, inside the chat

A connector lets an AI assistant such as Claude answer from an organisation’s own information. In the first example, a resident asks about bins and council tax, and each answer comes back as the council’s own card, in English or Welsh.

Example Council, asked about bins and council tax

Example Council is a fictional council, and every address, date, account, and amount in the demo is invented. The conversation is a real one, recorded in Claude.

  1. A resident asks

They ask Claude when the next bin collections are at 12 Sample Road, ZZ99 9ZZ.

  2. Claude offers the connector

Claude finds the Example Council connector and asks whether to use it. The resident presses Use, which sends the reply “Use Example Council for this”.

  3. The council’s card answers

The bin collections card shows the next collection, which bins go out, a service notice, and the collection after that. Claude adds a short reply.

  4. A question that needs sign-in

They ask how much council tax is left to pay this year. The council tax card shows £465.00 left, in three instalments of £155.00, with nothing overdue.

  5. Instalments, then Welsh

One button opens the list of instalments. Another switches the card to Welsh.

Two tools

One public, one signed in

Each tool gives Claude a short text answer and shows the resident the council’s card. Links out of the card, such as paying or reporting a missed collection, open on the council’s own site, each marked “Leaves the chat”.

On the cards and on this site, the Welsh is Async Digital’s own draft, translated with Claude, an AI model, and checked by Rob Nash, Async Digital’s director, who is learning Welsh; a real connector uses the council’s own Welsh, written by its translators.
